Comparing farm and city life
One of the major themes we studied in Charlotte’s Web was the comparisons we can make about city life and farm life. There are some obvious differences, and the children were great at observing these. Students were very interested to see just how many similarities there are between city and farm life! A great eye-opener for some of the children as many students live on farms, in rural areas and in a regional town. This activity was supported with visual images from cities around the world, especially Sydney as some students could relate to this large city

Visual Arts & Visual Literacy – How to Draw a Pig.
Text Study: Charlotte's Web
Firstly, students were shown step-by-step instructions on how to draw a pig. They were to measure the page in four sections so their pictures filled most of the white space on the paper.
Children then painted added in some elements into the background, such as a fence, Wilbur’s trough, farm shed and a farm house. Students then painted their pigs and added a black outline around Wilbur to make him stand out! All children absolutely loved bringing their cartoon Wilbur to life – each and every pig is different – which I think is great!
